Propane Tanker Goes over Embankment in Hunterslan

Written By The Mountain Eagle on 2/6/25 | 2/6/25

HUNTERSLAND — At approximately 9:25 Tuesday morning,  firefighters and other emergency personnel were called to a report of a propane tanker over an embankment

The Tri-Village Fire Co. Inc. was activated with the Rensselaerville Volunteer Fire Department for tankers to assist Huntersland Fire Department and Middleburgh Fire Department with a propane tanker over an embankment on Lawton Hollow Road. Upon arrival of Huntersland and Middleburgh crews, it was determined a main line from the tank had broken and was leaking propane. The tri-county hazmat (Schoharie, Montgomery, and Fulton counties) was requested which brought crews from Schoharie County, Gloversville, and Amsterdam. NYS OFPC was also requested for a hazmat response, officials said.

For safe recovery of the vehicle the decision was made to flare off the remaining propane. Into the evening, it was still an active scene and Huntersland Road was closed from Brooky Hollow Road to Canaday Hill Road.
