DELAWARE LEAGUE – The Delaware League title was decided last night, Feb. 20 as Margaretville and South Kortright faced off at SUNY Delhi. Margaretville finished first in the league at 6-0 and was 15-2 overall going into Thursday's game, while South Kortright was 5-1 and 11-8 going into the championship game. SK is the defending champion.
That will end regular season play as hoop season moves into the sectional playoffs on Feb. 25. Seedings for the Section 4, Class D playoffs were held after press time on Feb. 19. Margaretville is ranked ninth by the NYS Sportswriters Association, while SK/A is an honorable mention. SK/A is the defending sectional champion.
In last Thursday's mini round finals, Jefferson Stamford defeated Charlotte Valley 59-54 in overtime. J/S had a big final quarter to tie it and send it into overtime. Pat Terk led the charge with the game high of 22 points, including a trio of three-pointers and Max Eisel added another 19 points to the win. Gavin VanEtten just missed double figures with nine points on the night. Charlotte VAlley was led by Cole Whitbeck's 19-point effort, Simon Cowles added 11 points and Carrion Matz chipped in seven points.
Gilboa/Roxbury defeated Hunter-Tannersville 64-27 in their consolation final last Thursday. Cody Ciaravino led the way for G/R with 15 points, John DeWitt and Jordan Johnston added 12 points each. For H-T Gideon Glennon scored 12 points and Donovan Garcia added 12 points.
Hunter-Tannersville defeated Windham 50-46 in the first round of the mini tournament last Wednesday. Glennon led the way with 20 points on the night, while Garcia chipped in another 12 points in double figures. Payton Dempsey and Jacob Schwartz each scored 14 points for Windham.
Cairo-Durham defeated Jefferson/Stamford 51-49 in a non-league game last Friday. Pat Terk led J/S scoring with 23 points on the night and teammate Leland Donato-williamson added nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Max Eisel contributed eight points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
