MIDDLEBURGH -- After being in business for three years, Jaylene Rheta put down roots at 335 Main Street at Rheta Allen + Company earlier this year. The Cobleskill resident opened the storefront after growing her initial business from Valentine Igloos to bridal showers, baby showers, and weddings.
Jaylene said that she realized in 2020 during the shutdown that she wanted to do event decorating and planning. She had been told by friends and family that she was skilled at it, prompting her to reach out to a friend who is a wedding photographer for advice. After a couple years, her closets were filled with supplies, leading her to consider the space on Main Street and a chance to reach more people. She also operates a local AirBnB and sells real estate part time for Century 21 Rural Estates in Schoharie. The real estate position was perfect, she said, because she loved to "stage homes" and enjoys decorating them.
She partnered with her best friend Scott Allen Jaikin to start the company, which bears parts of both of their names, a reality.
For the past year, the storefront and rebranding became the main focus, Jaylene said.
The storefront is filled with a number of appropriately-themed items and an impressive layout and design.
Despite the storefront being a major achievement, Jaylene said that her favorite part of her job is being on site for events, making things easier for families on their special day. She especially likes seeing "how grateful they are."
After growing up in St. Johnsville, Jaylene studied Business Administration at Herkimer County Community College, then at SUNY Cobleskill. While in college at Cobleskill, she took a floral design class that made her realize "how much I love flowers."

There are far more options available, including floral arrangements and decorations. Special orders can be called ahead. Future plans include a helium tank, and an expansion of events. She added that she travels anywhere in the area to make plans happen.
Currently Rheta Allen + Company’s storefront is open Wednesday through Friday from 10am - 6pm, and weekends by appointment. Stop by to pick up flowers for that special someone or to plan the best day of your life with an expert.
