DELAWARE LEAGUE – Both South Kortright and Stamford/Jefferson won their respective games of the Delaware League playoff rounds last week off at SUNY Delhi last night (Feb. 20) to see who this year’s champion will be. SK will be looking for its 15th straight title. SKwas ranked fifth by the NYS Sportswriters Association and S/J was ranked 13.
SK defeated Hunter-Tannersville 65-31 last Wednesday to take their seat in the championship game, while Stamford/Jefferson defeated Charlotte Valley 54-24. SK is the first place team, finishing regular season play at 5-0 and are 16-1 overall, while Stamford's only blemish in league play was SK. They were 4-1 and 14-2 heading into the championship game.
Addy Eckert led SK scoring in SK's win with 32 points and 14 rebounds, while teammate Caitlyn Deysenroth chimed in another 18 points, pulled down seven rebounds and blocked five shots. Julia Legg led H-T with eight points and six rebounds, while her teammate, Saleema Poladian scored seven points and pulled down nine rebounds.
McKenna Hoyt led S/J's win, scoring 22 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. She also had six blocks. Dezaraye Hillis added nine points and Tierney Turner pulled down eight rebounds. For Charlotte Valley, Brinlee Wright led scoring with 13 points and Natalie Amadon added six points.
Charlotte Valley went on to defeat H-T in the consolation game last Friday. Ella Gerster led the way with 20 points on the night. For H-T, Lily Constable scored 15 points and Legg chimed in 13 more and pulled down eight rebounds. Brooke Becker also had a good night on the boards, with seven rebounds.
In action last Thursday, Gilboa/Roxbury defeated Margaretville 36-34 in the second round of the league playoffs. Caitlyn Ciaravino led the way with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Kendra Balcom added nine points. Jacey O'Donnell pulled down 10 rebounds. For Margaretville, Maria Colberg and Livy Fronckowiak each scored 10 points.
Seedings for Section 4, Class D playoffs were determined Feb. 19 after press time. Sectional action begins next week.
