PRATTSVILLE - Here are a few tidbits for something to read in the depth of this very cold winter days and nights and the terrible wind.

Thank you to all our law enforcement personnel, EMTs, early responders, our firemen and our neighbors who are always there with a helping hand just because they are our neighbors.

Debbie and Jimmy Dymond spent some time in Florida a while ago. Needless to say they thoroughly enjoyed those sunny warm days. Jimmy removed his shoes upon arrival down south and didn’t put them on again until they returned home because he had to protect them from frostbite. Debbie needing to get back to winter parka boots said she misses her flip flops. Summer does return to the Catskills in July so keep those flip flops ready . Welcome home Debbie and Jimmy.

Got a friend’s call from Janet Brainerd in Ravena. She continues to enjoy her life with son Georgie and family. She did say she had spent some time at the Rehab Center in Stamford some time ago. She needed to regain strength in her legs and once she reached her goals, she let her family know she was ready to return home saying, “I can watch TV at home as well as in the nursing home.” Janet has such a positive outlook on life, it is a joy to converse with her. Will always welcome your telephone calls Janet. Belated Happy Birthday for February 7

And another friend whose phone calls can brighten your day = Chris Down, fellow columnist. While her son and his family are enjoying some vacation time, of course in the sunny south, Chris was dog sitting their dog Dottie. Dottie is a Golden Lab who is missing her family and is keeping Chris busy trying to entertain her. Dottie likes watching the squirrels out the window and Chris is alert to the possibility that if Dottie gets out, the squirrels and Chris will have to be on the run so no unleashed walks.

David Rikard has promised to have some very good news regarding his son Jamison who is currently

in the U.S. Army in Europe. Will also have pictures. We are waiting David.

Had the pleasure of being at Ann & Co place of business and to get to see the huge bouquet of long stemmed red roses presented to her by her husband Steve. Of course Steve was rewarded with many kisses and “thank you’s.

Suzette and Bob Donisan are planning a birthday dinner for her mother Elsie Stuppert on March 8. Elsie is going to be 8?. Going to respect her by not revealing her age. In the meantime Suzette dropped off some of her famous baked desserts. Thank you Suzette.

Auxiliary members of Unit 1327, Marianne Krauss and Cathy Martino, attended the Greene County American Legion Auxiliary recently. They were on the committee that chose three Greene County high school juniors to attend Empire Girls State in the summer.

With the cold weather, and the accompanying blustery winds, being predicted for some time, curl up in front of the fireplace with a good book and stay home. Of course if you can find anything interesting on TV that is also an option. So many have a cold/flu that is accompanied by lots of congestion, it is a good idea to stay somewhat isolated.

Hear our own Bearpen Sports Center is booming. Try it out when the wind dies down a bit. Support our local small businesses. Many of you were doing that before the snow, sleet, wind and ice came in on Saturday. Those getting prepared were Debbie Dymond, Shelly Brainard, Joanne Roman and Lana Breigle and many others. Smart planners.

Happy Birthday Dottie Pickett on February 20. Happy Birthday to Matt Hill, son of Sandy and Larry Hill, on February 24. Happy Birthday to Rob Gurley and Chris Brody on February 28.
