Both the Town Board and Village Board appointed volunteers from the community to serve on a plan updated advisory committee. Their goal was to update the 1997 Joint Town and Village of Schoharie Comprehensive Plan, and to create a new document that will guide the community into the future. The plan was developed by the committee with active community participation/input through interviews, two open houses, and a town-wide survey that included over 500 participants.
The updated Comprehensive Plan addresses key areas such as preserving Schoharie’s rural and historic character, promoting economic growth, enhancing housing opportunities, protecting environmental resources, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents. It includes recommendations for programmatic actions, infrastructure improvements, and regulatory updates. The Plan addresses short and long-term plans to preserve community character, promote economic growth, enhance housing opportunities, protect environmental resources, improve infrastructure, enhance walkability, and enhance quality of life.
All are encouraged to read the plan and come to the public hearing on September 25 at 6:00 PM at the Town/Village Municipal Building at 300 Main Street, Schoharie to offer your comments on the Draft to the Advisory Committee. Written comments will be accepted until March 3, 2025 at either villscho@midtel.net or by mailing to PO Box 219, Schoharie, NY 12157.
After the hearing, the Committee will determine if any changes need to be made to the draft and then will submit the plan for consideration by the Town and Village Boards in March.
