Restoring Historic Stone Walls with Patrick Ryan

Written By The Mountain Eagle on 8/21/25 | 8/21/25

EAST MEREDITH — Workshop presented by the West Kortright Center Saturday September 6th and Sunday September 7th from 10am until 4pm each day.

Students will work together to restore a historic cemetery wall at Delaware County Historical Association. Participants will learn the basics of building and restoring free-standing dry-laid stone walls under the instruction of a stone wall professional with over 20 years experience.

Participants will learn how to sort and choose stones, use gravity to create a stable structure, while contributing to the conservation of local history and culture.

Bring your own lunch, gloves, heavy boots, and a stone hammer (if you have one).

Instructor Pat Ryan has been building stone walls since 1995. His stonework can be found at Brewery Ommegang, the Lakeview Event Center (in Laurens), and at numerous private residences and religious communities. Based in Oneonta, Pat travels the world looking at stone ruins.

There is a $240 fee for this workshop
