New Tavern Coming to M'burgh

MIDDLEBURGH - It may be a different color and another animal, but the former Green Wolf in Middleburgh will have a new tavern soon.

The Yellow Dog Tavern is slated to be opened on Main Street later this fall. Village officials discussed the request by Yellow Dog Tavern and owner Joe Bilello for a liquor license in August.

Mr. Bilello told village board members over the phone that he hoped to open the tavern as soon as possible after the license is approved.

Mr. Bilello said he is a former resident of Middleburgh and hopes to be again soon. He is very excited about reopening the bar, possibly as soon as October.

He recently visited a friend in Cobleskill and "fell in love with Middleburgh" and found out that the location was vacant. It has been vacant since the Green Wolf closed earlier this year.

"I'm really excited to get back there," Mr. Bilello told village board members.

Unlike the Green Wolf, Mr. Bilello said he plans to put in a small kitchen to serve "pub food."

He is trying for a full liquor license, though it may be difficult because of the proximity to the church across the street.

"It's great to have it open," and have it back again, said Trustee Sheryl Adams.

Mr. Bilello and his attorney asked the village to waive the statutory 30-day waiting period to allow Mr. Bilello to apply for an on-premises liquor license and temporary retail permit.
