Schoharie traveled to Fonda-Fultonville for a key early season WAC match up Monday night. The teams battled early on as the home team Valley Hawks repeatedly turned away the Storm attack.
Fonda’s goalkeeper Alex Pullen-Castillo made several incredible saves to help his team as well.
Finally, midway through the half Aiden McGough tallied for the visiting Storm off a deflected header to take a 1-0 lead at the half.
Fonda-Fultonville came out in the second half showing that they would not give up and earned a beautiful through ball that Tanner Sadel collected and beat the storm GK to tie the game! That goal seemed to ignite the Storm who then scored 6 unanswered goals, as their attack proved too much for the Hawks.
Max Kenny would have a hat trick on the evening, beginning with a header from a Ben Bengtson corner kick. Bengtson would also assist freshman Ben Borst’s first varsity goal, Caleb Cain and RJ Smith also scored for the Storm. Tucker Hernigle had a great game for Fonda as he demonstrated skill and talent and a never give up attitude. Alex Wray made 5 saves on 6 shots for Schoharie and commanded his defense well. Corners were similar at 3-2 but in favor of the Storm.
Special thanks to Prince Knight for the information.
