Fighting Tiger Weekly Recap

The SUNY Cobleskill men’s lacrosse team split a pair of home games during the week defeating Green Mountain College 25-2 on Monday prior to losing in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action on Saturday to Polytechnic Institute by a 15-10 margin. Sophomore attackman Garrett Vigrass, Wallkill, N.Y., Wallkill High School, had eight goals and three assists on the week for the Fighting Tigers who are now 3-3 overall on the season including a 0-2 mark in league action.

Sophomore multi-event athlete Zach Haskin, Warnerville, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, was the Fighting Tiger men’s outdoor track & field team’s top performer at the 2017 WCU Invitational hosted by West Chester University in West Chester, Pa.on Saturday. Haskin met the New York State College Track Conference (NYSCTC) outdoor championship automatic qualifying standard in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters to place third in the event while finishing in seventh place in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.85 seconds to meet the conference’s provisional qualifying standard in the event.

The women’s softball team dropped five-of-six contests during the week losing a pair of non-conference games at Sage College on Wednesday by scores of 5-1 and 17-3 before splitting a NEAC doubleheader at home on Saturday with Wells College losing the first game 6-5 then winning the nightcap by a 12-11 margin in eight innings. The Fighting Tigers closed the week by dropping a pair of NEAC games at Keuka College on Sunday by scores of 5-0 and 10-2. Junior third baseman Hannah Hoffman, Troy, N.Y., Averill High School/Hudson Valley Community College, went 9-for-18 on the week with six RBI as Cobleskill moved to 2-8 overall with a 1-3 record in NEAC play.

The men’s golf team posted rounds of 357 and 348 for a two-day total of 137-over par 705 to place 11th overall at the 2017 NYU Invitational hosted by New York University at the highly competitive par 71/6053 yard Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, N.J.Sophomore Nate Stanton, Somers, Conn., Somers High School, was the Fighting Tigers top finisher taking 49th place overall in the 59 player field posting scores of 90 and 84 for a two-day total of 32-over par 174 for the tournament.

Senior hurdler Emily Belewich, Ava, N.Y., Adirondack High School, was the Fighting Tiger women’s men’s outdoor track & field team’s top performer at the 2017 WCU Invitational hosted by West Chester University in West Chester, Pa.  Belewich placed seventh overall in the 100-hurdles in a time of 16.91 seconds to meet the NYSCTC outdoor championship meet provisional qualifying mark in the event.
