SUNY COBLESKILL WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS CAZENOVIA COLLEGE IN NAC ACTION

The SUNY Cobleskill women’s volleyball team closed out their weekend North Atlantic Conference (NAC) homestand on Sunday afternoon sweeping the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College 3-0 by set scores of 25-7, 25-19 and 25-19. With the win the Fighting Tigers improve to 6-9 overall on the year with a 2-1 conference record while the Wildcats drop to 1-13 overall with a 0-4 conference mark.  

The Fighting Tigers front line flex their muscles at the net using a pronounced size advantage to make quick work of the Wildcats posting a 37-13 advantage in kills on the evening while the home team also showed a proficient serving attack going for 12 aces as compared to Cazenovia’s five.  

Sophomore outside hitter Mackenzie Larson, Winterset, Iowa, Winterset High School, turned in another strong all-around effort with seven kills, 12 digs and three service aces while sophomore middle hitter Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, posted a team high of eight kills to go with three digs and pair of solo blocks. Fellow front liners senior middle hitter Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, and sophomore Abigail Scheurich, Oxford, Conn., Nonnewaug High School, were also active in the victory with Nitchman going for seven kills and a solo block while Scheurich chipped in six kills, four kills along with two service aces.  

Senior setter Maleigha Ellithorpe, Cazenovia, N.Y., Cazenovia High School/Onondaga Community College, provided strong setting throughout the match with 29 assists along with three kills, three service aces and two digs with sophomore libero Kelley Miller, Fort Mill, S.C., Fort Mill High School, going for 19 digs and two assists on the day.   

The Orange & Black will next be in action on Wednesday October 13 when they travel to Marcy, N.Y. for a NAC meeting with the Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute with first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
