SUNY COBLESKILL’S EDDY GARCIA NAMED NAC BASEBALL PLAYER-OF-THE-YEAR

Waterville, Me.: The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) announced today that SUNY Cobleskill senior shortstop Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, has been named the 2022 NAC Baseball Player-of-the-Year. The Fighting Tiger shortstop becomes the first player in program history to earn NAC Baseball Player-of-the-Year honors after earning All-Conference honors in both the 2021 and 2022 seasons.  

The Fighting Tiger senior shortstop posted one of the most impressive statistical seasons’ in conference history displaying an impressive combination of power, speed and durability leading the conference in: games played with 41, plate appearances with 177, at bats with 147, hits with 54, runs scored with 48, doubles with 17, triples with six, runs batted in with 45, total bases with 101 and assists with 101.  

The Bronx, N.Y. native also finished ranked: second in slugging percentage at .687, third in stolen bases with 20, third in double plays generated defensively with 17, fifth in home runs with six, fifth in batting average hitting .367, ninth in on-base percentage at .449 and tenth in total defensive chances with 110.    

According to Fighting Tiger Head Coach Lance Ratchford the senior shortstop was the driving force behind the team’s success and highly deserving of the award.  

"To say that Eddy Garcia had an impressive year and put-up record numbers for our program just doesn’t seem adequate. He put a stamp on a career and set the standard for what we expect from our players to strive for year in and year out. Simply put, he was the catalyst of our team and one of the finest players to ever play baseball at SUNY Cobleskill. " 

During the 2022 season Cobleskill posted their third consecutive winning season posting a 21-20 overall record capturing the league’s Western Division Championship for the second consecutive season with an 11-4 conference mark and making their third conference season appearance in four years.
