Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women’s cross country team will be looking to rebound from a 2021 campaign that saw the Fighting Tigers compete incomplete for most of the season’s events and post an eighth place finish at the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championships. With several key returners joined by a number of newcomers, Cobleskill Head Coach Mitch Tomaszkiewicz believes the program is moving in the right direction as he prepares for his 30th season directing the Orange & Black.
“We’ve seen significant improvement from our returners and have begun to rebuild our overall numbers,” said Tomaszkiewicz. “I think that we are making progress towards getting back to where we were pre-pandemic and are going to have a better season as we continue the rebuilding process.”
The Fighting Tigers will return two letter winners as well as their top runner from 2021 squad including sophomore Jenna Swyers, Peru, N.Y., Peru High School, who was the team’s top finisher in seven events during the season.
The newcomers will be highlighted by sophomore Katherine Ledermann, Guilderland, N.Y., Guilderland High School, a transfer from Canisius College who was a member of the women’s track & field team in the spring, first-year Lilly Swyers, Peru, N.Y., Peru High School, the younger sister of Jenna Swyers and freshman Alyssa Freeguard, Argyle, N.Y., Argyle High School, who earned All-Section II Class D Team honors while capturing the 2021 Adirondack League Girls Cross Country Championship.
Cobleskill will open the 2022 season on Saturday September 3 when they travel to Castleton, Vt. for the Castleton University Invitational hosted by Castleton University on the college’s cross country course beginning at 11:00 a.m.
