Parade, Tree Lighting, Santa Among Highlights

SCHOHARIE - Things are coming together for the Annual Christmas in Schoharie this year. They have a lot of things planned already and are adding more everyday, so the list of things to do will be evolving along the way.

Here is a list of events so far…..

* Breakfast with Santa at the Schoharie Fire House

*Ornament making and gingerbread house contest will be going on as well. 8am-11am

* Scavenger hunt throughout the village from 8am-1pm. There will be Hay Rides provided by Jack Miller's Tractor and Lisa from Mountaintop Lovehorse Ranch will be downtown offering horse rides, $5 for a short ride, $10 for a long ride. The El Taco Shack will be offering free hot chocolate and Churros while supplies last as well.

* Music played by Keller Entertainment downtown in front of the courthouse, and a reading of The Night Before Christmas from 12pm-2pm.

* There will be a Soup Stroll, organized by Jennie from The Farmers Beef and Brew, more info will be coming for this event but will take place from 2pm-5pm. If you are a food vendor or restaurant who wishes to participate, please reach out to Jennie at (518)380-1509.

* Old Stone Fort will have the gift shop open. They will have a vendor fair, a chocolate jumbo contest, a chance auction, bake sale, and historical demonstrations starting at 10 am.

* Christ the Shepherd Lutheran Church will be hosting a Vendor Fair, Arts and Crafts for all ages, and free gift wrapping from 9am-2pm. If you are interested in being part of the vendor fair at this location, please reach out to Colleen Quirion at (518)231-8641.

* The Schoharie Chapter, NSDAR house will be open during the day to allow patrons to come in and write a thank you letter to a veteran. This is much needed during the holiday season and appreciated by our Veterans.

* The Schoharie Free Library will have a Sing Along at 11 am, Story time at 1 pm, and Crafts, Hot beverages and cookies from 10am-2pm

* Parade theme this year is A Colonial Christmas. Line up starts at 4pm in the Schoharie School parking lot, kick off at 5pm going down to the DAR house. They are encouraging anybody who wants to join in the parade to do so! Let's make it a good one!

The Christmas tree will be placed several days before the event and is always provided by Kiwanis Schoharie. The tree is then lit up at the end of the parade in a ceremony at the DAR house. This is where the awards will be given for the participants in all the various events from the day, so they encourage you all to come and join them.

After the Tree Lighting ceremony, stick around for a Bonfire and refreshments at the DAR house.

Also, the Schoharie Promotional Association will be having their annual House and Business Decoration Contest. So, if you have a house and/or a business in the Village, please join in.
