‘Tis the season to gather, and the folks at the Headwaters Arts Center, located at 66 Main Street in Stamford, are offering something for everyone during a full-day of free creative activities on Saturday, December 16.
The day begins at 10:00a with Headwaters’ free ongoing program, the Baby and Toddler Playgroup. Babies, toddlers and their caretakers are invited to gather, socialize and play at the Headwaters Arts Center. Balls, blocks and other sensory toys will be provided by the Arts Center, and participants are welcome to bring their own.
Families with young children are welcome to create holiday joy at Headwaters from 12:00p – 2:00p with two free activities sure to brighten the holiday season. Kiddos will learn about color and negative & positive space as they create colorful paper wreaths with multi-media artist Ann Schwed. And Rod Sauquillo will support participants and their families as they construct stuffed holiday-themed creations that can become ornaments, toys, or whatever else they imagine. These free programs are great for children of all ages, and each child should be supported by an adult ‘art assistant’. All materials for the projects will be supplied by the Headwaters Arts Center.
During the final activity of the day, from 3:00p – 5:00p, Ann Schwed and Megan Avery team up to offer a free workshop for creatives ages 13+ where participants will create personalized cloth napkins using different print-making techniques. The napkins that participants create can be gifts this holiday season or brighten their own dining tables. Megan Avery of Hipstitch Academy will help participants sew their very own cloth napkins using a sewing machine. Ann will provide instruction on various types of print-making, however participants are encouraged to explore their creativity and experiment with their projects. All materials will be provided, but participants are invited to bring their own napkins or print materials if they prefer. This event is free, but participants should register in advance at roxburyartsgroup.org, as space is limited.
The holiday cheer does not end there! Stop in anytime this holiday season at the Headwaters Arts Center and take home a gift from their Giving Tree. Wrapped gifts sure to inspire the artist in you decorate the tree, and the team at Headwaters hope you will stop in and help continue to spread holiday cheer this season. The Giving Tree is available to everyone.
