Out Lexington Way

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Town of Lexington Fire/Rescue Company met for their annual meeting on Dec. 13.  Officers elected for 2024 are:  President, JoEllen Schermerhorn; 1st VP, Susan Turk; 2nd VP, Charlotte Jaeger; Treasurer, Helen Kerr; Secretary, Chris Dwon; Chaplain, Jannel Mellott; Guard, Bette Knapp.  The meeting was followed with a very pleasant holiday covered dish.  The Ladies Auxiliary will not meet in the months of January, February and March.

Friday, Dec. 15 was the Mountain Top Parish Churches and Community Christmas party at the Lexington/West Kill UMC in Lexington.  The covered dish supper was, as always, delicious.  We sang Christmas carols and then had the grab bag exchange.  Was a delightful evening in fellowship.

The last of the three classes of the Micro Sunday School was held on Dec. 16 at the Lexington/West Kill UMC.  There were 10 children at this class and all attending had a wonderful time learning about Advent and the birth of Jesus.  There are plans to have another Micro Sunday School before Easter.  

The Kaaterskill UMC Food Pantry that is available at the Tannersville Village Hall, One Park Lane, Tannersville, will be open weather permitting, Wednesday,  Dec. 27 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the third Saturday of each month from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. when the pantry will be packing delivers for folks who are unable to get to the pantry.  That time is also available for people to stop in as well.  Please call 518-589-5787 to arrange a delivery, contingent on volunteer availability or if you have an emergency need at any time.

Happy birthday to Stephen Foreman on Saturday, Dec. 23.

Dec. 23 is also Christopher Tilp’s birthday.

Happy birthday to Amy (Van Etten) Heppard, Sunday, Dec. 24.

Jill Coons celebrates her birthday on Thursday, Dec. 28.

On Saturday, Dec. 30, Jill Schermerhorn celebrates her birthday.

Also having a birthday on Dec. 30 is DeDe Bulson.

Sunday, Dec. 24 at 10 a.m. there will be a service focused for children and families at the Kaaterskill UMC, Main Street, Tannersville.  Everyone is invited to and open to all.  There will also be a worship service at Kaaterskill UMC at 5 p.m.

There will be a Candlelight Service at the Ashland UMC Community Church, 1216 State Highway 23, Ashland on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.

The Candlelight Service, Sunday, Dec. 24 at the Windham-Hensonville UMC, Main Street, Windham, is 9 p.m.

The Greene County Department of Human Services Senior Nutrition Program menu for the week of Dec. 25 – Dec. 29 is as follows:  Monday—Merry Christmas—the main office and all Senior Nutrition sites are closed – no meals; Tuesday—Tortellini with sausage, spinach, carrots, peaches; Wednesday—Lemon pepper fish, Sonoma vegetables, broccoli, rice pilaf, butterscotch pudding; Thursday—New Years Eve Luncheon—Baked ham with pineapple sauce, Au Gratin potatoes, Monaco mixed vegetables, chocolate silk pie; Friday—Hungarian goulash, old fashioned mixed vegetables, egg noodles, fresh fruit.  The menu will be the meal that is delivered to all Greene County homebound meal clients.  All persons over the age of 60 can receive a meal.  Suggested donation for each meal is $4.  Those wishing to receive a meal must call the respective location by noon a day in advance.  The number to call for the Jewett Senior Center at the Jewett Municipal Building, Route 23C, Jewett is 518-263-4392.

The Mountain Top UMC Parish Churches will have a joint service on New Year’s Eve Sunday, Dec. 31 at 10 a.m. in the Lexington/West Kill UMC, Lexington, followed by a covered dish lunch.  All are invited to attend.

You can spend every Monday afternoon,  starting at 2 p.m., sipping coffee and socializing at the Mountain Top Library, 6093 Main Street, Tannersville and enjoy games, puzzles, programs, and more.  Share stories, play games, learn about local history and enjoy conversations.  All ages are welcome.  Call 518-589-5707 if you have questions.

On the second Tuesdays of each month there is a Coffee Klatch at the Hunter Public Library, 7965 Main Street from 10 a.m. to noon with light refreshments, coffee and tea.

Thank you to all law enforcement, firefighters, EMS, dispatchers, healthcare providers, teachers, farmers, truck drivers, volunteers and so many more.

Prayers for all who are dealing with loss, illnesses, healing, difficulties, our country, our military and their families, the world.
