SCHOHARIE – High school seniors Erica Nahaczewski and Willow Werner found a ‘meaty’ topic to cut into during class this week at the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical Education Center – Schoharie Campus.
The Culinary Arts & Hospitality Technology seniors from Middleburgh prepared beef top round and brisket for grinding as their class developed a burger blend to be sold for lunches, said Teacher Chris Snye.
The seniors are among 49 enrolled in the culinary program and 123 students taking the program overall. Offered at both the Albany and Schoharie campuses, the two-year program teaches students the skills necessary to enter the workforce as a chef or pursue additional training in college. Graduates work in restaurants and resorts around the region and beyond, own their establishment and even prepare food for professional sporting events.
“I like to cook, and I like to be here learning new skills that will help me in the future.” said Nahaczewski.
Enrollment is underway for the 2024-25 school year. For more information on the Culinary Arts program, visit https://www.capitalregionboces.org/career-technical-education/courses-programs/culinary-arts-hospitality-technology/
