Traditionally Speaking…by Pat Larsen

Being Stuck…

There’s being stuck in mud. Stuck for a word.

A jar lid stuck shut. Being stuck behind a slow moving  vehicle.

A zipper stuck open. Or a ring stuck on your finger.

NOPE, this kind of stuck, is none of those things.

The kind of being stuck that I’m referring to relates to the work that I am often called to do as a clinical hypnotherapist.  I offer support to  those who are  stuck in a situation that they see no way out from. It’s like they feel they’re trapped within  a glass jar and can see what they want or need to do, but they cannot reach it.

It can be suffocating to be immobilized by this kind of limitation.

Often caused in part by fear, or simply uncertainty that if their circumstances were to change, how would they then navigate their lives from that perspective. Sometimes getting unstuck can then carry its own set of limitations especially if someone has been stuck for a long time.

Stuck is not a comfortable feeling. It influences every aspect of the person's day to day activities consuming their thoughts, stifling their momentum and rendering them…more stuck with an increasing feeling of helplessness.

I get it. I understand this feeling having worn these shoes. The magnetized stuck shoes I wore that kept me in one place unable to move forward without falling over until I found the way out.

That very  personal experience is what led me to my education in this field of hypnotherapy.

To begin with, the very first sentence uttered by my esteemed instructors was this. “All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.”

My response was…”no kidding!” That was incredibly empowering to hear.

So my training continued for over 10 years and now I work diligently and confidently with many who have learned how to get

“Unstuck” through their own means of learning how to tap into that subconscious place within the mind. They’re able then to  find the exact solutions that would work for them.

Yes, it’s through the practice of learning “self hypnosis”.  The process is actually quite pleasant to teach and easy enough to follow through on one's own.

Mostly, the therapy begins with allowing the person who is stuck to just be heard. To be a witness to their story, so that they then can “hear” the situation with a familiar voice…their own.

The process unfolds from there.

Being stuck doesn’t have to mean a life sentence within its walls.

There is help out there. There is a way to get unstuck.
