SABR DAY 2024: Cooperstown/Upstate New York Chapter Meeting set for Feb. 3

Written By The Mountain Eagle on 1/21/24 | 1/21/24

COOPERSTOWN - The next Cliff Kachline SABR chapter meeting and presentations will take place on Saturday, February 3 (noon-2 pm) in the Bullpen Theater inside the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown.

Guest speakers will include baseball authors Erik Sherman and Gary Mintz. Mr. Sherman, a baseball historian and the New York Times best-selling author of eight books on baseball, will be discussing his newest book “Daybreak at Chavez Ravine: Fernandomania and the Remaking of the Los Angeles Dodgers”. The book retells the arrival of Fernando Valenzuela in 1981 and the permanent influence he had on the Los Angeles Dodgers' history, and the redemption it brought to the organization's controversial beginnings in that city.

Mr. Mintz, the founder of the New York Giants Preservation Society and its weekly podcast, will be discussing his new book “Baseball From 3,000 Miles Away: The Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs of Being an East Coast San Francisco Giants Fan.” The book outlines his lifelong fandom of the San Francisco Giants, having lived his entire life in the state of New York, 3,000 miles away from the team he adores.

Both authors will have copies of all their books available for sale/signing.  The event is open to anyone wishing to attend.  For more information, contact Mike Hauser at 518-848-1128 or email him at mhauser@frontiernet.net.
