Masonville, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a South New Berlin resident for driving while intoxicated following a traffic stop on State Highway 8 in the Town of Masonville.
On Thursday night, January 11th, 2024, Sheriff’s Deputies were patrolling on State Highway 8, in the Town of Masonville when a vehicle was observed to be traveling 72 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Deputies performed a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, 41-year-old Thomas Taranto of South New Berlin NY.
Upon completion of the investigation, Sheriff’s Deputies subsequently arrested and charged Thomas Taranto with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, as well as Speed in 55 mph zone and obstructed plate, both violations in the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Taranto was additionally charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a Class A misdemeanor in the New York State Penal Law.
Taranto released on the traffic tickets and an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Masonville Court at a later date to answer the charges.
