COBLESKILL — The Cobleskill Village Police are warning local residents of several incidences that have occurred in the last week or so. At 10:30 am earlier this month, a woman was driving westbound from the area of Mcdonald's toward North Street. At the North Street intersection, a homeless man limping, jumped in front of the car making the driver stop. This backed up traffic westbound past Mcdonald's. The man claimed he was hurt and attempted to get into the vehicle.
The vehicle owner contacted the Village Police because she was concerned for the welfare of the homeless person. The officer explained to her that he also tried to jump in front of other vehicles and told her to tell him the police were notified. At that point, the homeless person miraculously recovered from his limp and took off in the direction of Union Street.
There has been an influx of homelessness in our area lately and with that more issues are happening. In the event that you are approached by anyone, NEVER LET THEM INTO YOUR VEHICLE, regardless of whatever they are claiming. Some homeless people stopped a vehicle, jumped inside of the vehicle and told the owner of the vehicle they wanted money or they wouldn’t get out of the car. Another incident happened when a homeless person jumped into the vehicle took belongings from the vehicle and jumped back out with the person’s personal property.
Keep your doors locked and do not let anyone in. Contact the police if this happens and be aware of your surroundings.
