The PROGRAM for ANNUAL MOUNTAINTOP EARTH DAY EVENT on May 4th.

Partners Mountain Top Library (Tannersville), the Town of Hunter and Mountain Top Progressives invite you to attend this FREE event. Hosted at the MOUNTAIN TOP LIBRARY, Earth Day ‘24 celebrates our beautiful and historic Mountaintop environment. We encourage you to join us as we celebrate our history, our art, and our beauty; and learn how to protect and preserve our environment – the place that we call home!

Whether you’re interested in flora or fauna, the EARTH DAY ‘24 exploration and celebration will have things of interest to you. From ribbon cutting and story time to art show, garden creation and arts and crafts, this event will be memorable for people of all ages. More than ten information and interactive topic tables will be available to view and ask questions of. These include the NY DEC, Fromer Farms, the Sierra Club, the Schoharie Watershed, Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center, Humane League, learn about Recycling and Composting, The Plastic Invasion and the Mountaintop Historic Society.   Seeds, seedlings, and saplings (young trees) are all available- FREE! 

The Earth Day/24 PROGRAM INCLUDES:

  • A LIVE DEMONSTRATION:  Birds of Prey and reptiles on the Mountaintop!

  • Cornell Cooperative Extension: A DEMONSTRATION: Design and Plan Your 2024 Garden.

  • Greene County Soil and Water – Watershed and the Mountaintop!

  • ART OPENING: Student Environmental Art Display

  • History of the Mountaintop: Mountaintop Historical Society and Dede Thorp

  • An award-winning display: “Land of Little Rivers” – Marvin Seligman Marvels! 

  • FREE seeds, seedlings, and saplings: Start your 2024 garden with a plan. 

  • Kids games, puzzles, poster art, poetry, and free buttons, stickers, and giveaways

  • Help decorate the new Rip’s Magical Garden to be located outside the library 

You’ll also have the opportunity to sign up as volunteers for a TRAIL CLEAN UP that will take place two weeks later – Saturday, May 18th from 10 AM to Noon. The Clean-up will be followed by a Potluck Picnic at the Rip Van Winkle Lake/Park Pavilion.  You can also sign up for a BIRDING EXPEDITION scheduled for June 1st at the Mountaintop Arboretum Trail, Tannersville. Additional details at the Earth Day celebration.
