Obituary - Richard VanHoesen

Richard VanHoesen, 92, passed away on Saturday, September 7,2024, at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.
Born on Aug. 31, 1932, in Kortright, Richard was the son of the late Ira and Effie (Bright) Van Hoesen.
He was married to the love of his life, Patricia (Nichols) Van Hoesen of 68 years on Aug. 31, 1952.
Richard proudly served in the US Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954.
He was a past assistant fire chief for Stamford Fire Department. He was a past Commander of the VFW post # 6292 of Stamford. He worked for the New York Telephone Company and retired in Stamford after 35 years. After retirement he drove vehicles for Certified Auto in Oneonta.
Richard enjoyed trout fishing and camping with his family, also hunting with his buddies at “Dugan’s” camp in the Adirondacks. Richard also enjoyed snowmobiling with his family and friends.
He was a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather of six and great-grandfather of 11.
He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years in June of 2021. Also predeceased by parents Ira and Effie (Bright) Van Hoesen, brothers William and Donald, Sisters Flossie Pruden, Ena Decker, Virginia Eckerd.
 He is survived by four children, Peggy (Russell) Hait of Jefferson, Lorraine VanHoesen of Florida, James VanHoesen of Stamford and David (Laura) VanHoesen of Florida; six grandchildren, Melissa (Dan), Sarah (Bill), Brian (Aubrey) Jesse (Amanda), Nikki (Ryan) and Katy (Danny); 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 10:00 until noon Saturday, September 21, at MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford, where a prayer service will follow at noon at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stamford VFW Post #6292 in his memory.
