Conviction in Child Pornography Case

Written By The Mountain Eagle on 1/9/25 | 1/9/25

DELHI – District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that Spencer Gransbury, 36, of Walton, New York, appeared in Delaware County Court on January 7, 2025, and pleaded guilty to Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, a Class E Felony.

Gransbury appeared before the Honorable John L. Hubbard, Delaware County Court Judge, on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to the sole count of a Superior Court Information.

Prior to pleading guilty, the defendant admitted that he downloaded a photograph of a child approximately ten years old engaged in sexual conduct.  The defendant admitted he had the picture for his own sexual gratification.

In November of 2023, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a Cybertip of child sex abuse material being viewed with a phone number associated to it.  After a thorough investigation conducted by the New York State Police, the number was found to be Gransbury’s cell phone.

After accepting the defendant’s guilty plea, the Court sentenced the defendant to ten years’ felony probation with sex offenders’ terms and conditions. The sex offender terms and conditions prohibit the defendant from associating with any individual under the age of eighteen without the direct supervision of an adult that is approved by the probation officer. The terms and conditions further prohibit the defendant from entering any place that children congregate, and all of the defendant’s electronic devices will also be subjected to monitoring by the Delaware County Probation Department.   The defendant will also be required to register as a sex offender for at least 20 years.

District Attorney Shawn Smith commended State Police Investigator Ben Andrews and Trooper Mitchell Reed for their thorough investigation into this case “Individuals that view child pornography create a market which results in children being sexually exploited.  I will continue to work with law enforcement to hold these people accountable.”
