We have a new President that has been sworn in, and I personally hope that we can move on as one nation.
The last four years seems to me that the country was not unified as it should be. Granted, you are not going to please everyone.
We had a few ideas at our last meeting as to what we can do for a fun fundraiser and bingo came up. If you remember a few years back our auxiliary ran a bingo game.
It stopped operating due to the State Gaming rules. Well, we have filed for a new gaming license with the State, and it looks promising that bingo may come back. So stay tuned for the announcement!
I have been in contact with Adaptive Sports [Foundation] regarding having the Wounded Warrior Project [at Windham Mountain Club] this year working with some of the veterans.
They do such a great job helping them get on the slopes and having the opportunity to ski even with their disabilities from war.
We have been invited to a luncheon or dinner with them over the weekend. In past years they came to our post and had dinner, and we got to meet with them and enjoy the company.
Last week I complained it was cold and see what has happened, it’s gotten colder. Great if you want to ski but even doing that means getting really bundled up. So, no more complaining about the cold anymore from me.
We had our District 3 VFW meeting this past Sunday in the Stuyvesant Falls VFW Hall.
Information regarding our Gold Chevron Dinner was announced and we have in the past it will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Clifton Park.
We have a general membership meeting with all posts attending from the district and business is discussed prior to the awards dinner.
The district awards for the Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy contests are handed out for the entrants who were chosen from posts throughout the district.
Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, Fulfilling Our Nation's Promise again we highlight a serviceman from WWll.
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced today that U.S. Army Air Forces Staff Sgt. Loring E. Lord, 28, of Sommerville, Massachusetts, killed during World War II, was accounted for Sept. 18, 2024.
in March 1945, Lord was a member of the 642nd Bombardment Squadron, 409th Bombardment Group, 9th Bombardment Division, 9th Air Force. He was a gunner aboard an A-26B “Invader”, when his aircraft was hit by heavy anti-aircraft fire during a bombing mission to Duelmen, Germany. Airmen aboard other aircraft flying in formation witnessed the A-26B lose altitude, crash and explode. There was no indication that anyone escaped the crash, and the crew was reported Missing In Action.
In 2014, DPAA historians received information from a German researcher, Adolf Hagedorn, about a possible crash site he believed could be associated with Lord’s aircraft. A DPAA investigation team met with Hagedorn and reviewed his extensive research, and the possible crash site. Later in 2018, after several recovery missions, DPAA excavations located identification media for one of Lord’s crewmembers, and possible osseous remains. These collected materials were then sent to the DPAA laboratory for analysis and identification.
To identify Lord’s remains, scientists from DPAA used anthropological analysis, as well as circumstantial evidence. Additionally, scientists from the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System used mitochondrial DNA and mitochondrial genome sequence analysis.
Lord’s name is recorded on the Tablets of the Missing at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, an American Battle Monuments Commission site in Hombourg, Belgium, along with the others still missing from World War II. A rosette will be placed next to his name to indicate he has been accounted for.
Lord will be buried in Everette, Massachusetts on a date to be determined.
I bring up the names of the MIA/Pow reports to let everyone know about the exhausting efforts that our country goes through to bring closure to the loved ones. No one should be left behind.
Remember all who gave the ultimate sacrifice to our country and those still serving throughout the world and keep them in your thoughts and prayers. God Bless America.
