Delaware County District Attorney Shout-Out K9 Officer Royce Terry & K9 Riggs

Written By The Mountain Eagle on 10/3/25 | 10/3/25

District Attorney Shawn Smith and the Delaware County District Attorney’s office want to recognize K9 Officer Royce Terry and K9 Riggs of the Sidney Police Department for their outstanding service to the people of Sidney and Delaware County.

Officer Terry began his law enforcement career in 2017 with the Cooperstown Police departments before joining the Sidney Police Department in 2019. In addition to his responsibilities as K9 Officer, Terry is a TASER, General Topics and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing instructor for the Sidney PD.

In 2022 he partnered up with K9 Riggs who is trained in narcotics detection. Over the past 3 years, Terry and Riggs have worked diligently together to address narcotics violations in the community. Unfortunately, due to medical issues, K9 Riggs will be retiring around the end of this year.  He will continue to live with Officer Terry at his home in retirement. It is anticipated that Officer Terry will have a new K9 partner at some point in 2026.

According to their public Facebook page, “The Sidney Police K-9 Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Sidney Polic Department’s K-9 unit.”  They are currently gathering donations from the community to help in the transition.

Please join us in thanking Officer Terry for his continuing work to make Sidney a safer place to live and wishing K9 Riggs well in his retirement.
