COBLESKILL – With expectations set high for the 2024 season, the Cobleskill-Richmondville Bulldogs took the field last Friday night against a formidable opponent in the Broadalbin-Perth Patriots. Needless to say, but expectations were met – and then exceeded – in the first contest of the year.
Only minutes into the game, Bulldogs Running Back Kyber Henry ran twenty-five yards into the endzone to give CR an early lead over the Patriots. The Bulldogs would hold that lead for the remainder of the night, defeating Broadalbin-Perth 58-20, and making a statement Class C rivals will heed.
Henry, one of CR’s returning Seniors, dominated the gridiron by rushing for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 4 carries. His level of productivity set the stage for a Bulldogs squad that accumulated 611 offensive yards, including 392 yards gained on the ground and an additional 219 passing yards.
In addition to Henry’s standout effort, Bulldogs Quarterback Caleb Hantho completed 83.3% of his passing attempts for 94 yards, while Offensive Guard Carlos Torres gained forty yards and scored two touchdowns on only two rushing attempts. CR scored 51 unanswered points by halftime.
Not to be outdone, the Bulldogs (1-0) defense held the Patriots (0-1) to 291 offensive yards and intercepted three pass attempts.
The Bulldogs will remain home for tonight’s week 2 matchup against the Hudson Blue Hawks (1-0), who shutout the Taconic Hills Titans 18-0 in their opening contest last week. Kickoff will be at 7:00 PM at the Cobleskill-Richmondville High School.
