SCHOHARIE - Schoharie Central School has been designated as a targeted school in need of improvement for the middle school, Superintendent David Blanchard reported at the February 13 school board meeting.

The state has designated the school because it was "falling below par meeting the needs for special education students in the middle school," Mr. Blanchard said.

The Superintendent said the designation is "not the worst thing."

The district will have to develop a list of goals to overcome the shortcomings. The state will provide funding to hire a firm to help with developing the goals.

The district will hire a firm to help with the goals and strategic plan on how to implement them, he added.

The district has contracted with BluePoint Planning to work with the school's lead team and board members. Meetings will be held on May 5 and 19.

The meetings and work will result in "an end product to move forward with a succinct strategic plan," and goals to help the district improve, Mr. Blanchard said.

He said he will keep board members posted about the progress.
