Written By Editor on 10/15/23 | 10/15/23

Lyndon, Vt.: The SUNY Cobleskill women’s soccer team ended their season long winless streak on Sunday afternoon posting a 3-1 victory over the host Hornets of Vermont State University-Lyndon (VTSU) in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 1-9-1 overall on the season including a 1-4 record versus NAC opponents while the Hornets fall to 0-9 overall with a 0-5 mark in league action.

The Fighting Tigers drew first blood on the Hornets in the 12th minute of action when first-year forward Jojo Leubner, Marcellus, N.Y., Marcellus High School, took a pass from sophomore midfielder Jessica Carney, Hopkinton, N.H., Hopkinton High School, and found the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Carney then gave the visitors a 2-0 lead in the 16th minute when she scored off a pass from first-year midfielder Miah Lathrop, Rochester, N.Y., Rush-Henrietta High School.

The Hornets scored prior to the end of the first half to cut the Fighting Tigers’ lead to 2-1 at the break.

The score stayed 2-1 throughout the second half with neither team able to press a significant offensive attack until the 71st minute when Cobleskill cemented the victory with a goal off the foot of Miah Lathrop with an assist from Jojo Leubner.

The Fighting Tiger defense held the home team in check throughout the game led by sophomore goalkeeper Dory Gory Gosselin, White Hall, N.Y., Whitehall High School, who recorded five saves to post her first win of the season in net.

Cobleskill will return to action on Wednesday October 11 when they host the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College of Syracuse with kick-off at 4:00 p.m.
