SUNY COBLESKILL BASEBALL SPLITS HOME DOUBLEHEADER WITH BRYANT & STRATTON

Written By Editor on 4/7/22 | 4/7/22

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team returned to Fighting Tiger Field on Saturday afternoon to split a pair of non-league games with the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College of Albany dropping the opener 7-6 in nine innings then taking the nightcap in walk-off fashion by a 3-2 margin. With the split the Fighting Tigers are now 7-10 overall on the year while the Bobcats move to 7-24 overall on the year to date.

In a back-and-forth first game, it took nine innings to decide the outcome as the contest featured three ties and four lead changes that finished with the visitors breaking a 6-6 tie in the top of the ninth to post the victory.

Senior right hander Jarrod Williams, Baldwinsville, N.Y., C.W. Baker High School/Finger Lakes Community College, battled through the wind and cold to post a quality start and keep Cobleskill in the game working seven innings allowing only three earned runs on eight hits, striking out six and walking three.

At the plate first year catcher Logan Hutter, Smithtown, N.Y., Smithtown High School, was the Cobleskill offense going 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a career high of five RBI in the game.

The second game was a classic pitcher’s duel with Cobleskill junior Wyatt Palmer, Camden, N.Y., Camden High School/Cayuga Community College, posting the victory by going the full seven innings allowing two runs on six hits to improve his record to 3-1 overall on the season.

With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, first year catcher Dylan Pohl, East Meadow, N.Y., East Meadow High School, led-off with a walk and was promptly pinch run for by junior Anthony Vicinanzo, Amsterdam, N.Y., Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School. Then successive bunt singles by first year center fielder Zach Ducorsky, Oceanside, N.Y., Oceanside High School, and first year left fielder Trevor Grieb, Red Hook, N.Y., Red Hook High School, loaded the bases for senior second baseman Christopher Kordziel, Rotterdam, N.Y., Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School/Hudson Valley Community College, who lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that easily scored Vicinanzo ahead of the throw to give the Orange & Black the walk-off win.

Pohl led the Fighting Tiger offense at the plate going 1-for-2 with a walk and a RBI with Ducorsky also going 1-for-2 with a RBI.

Cobleskill is next scheduled to be in action on Tuesday April 5 when they host the Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta in non-conference action at Fighting Tiger Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.
