Cobleskill Girls Softball Swept in Non-Conference Play

Troy, N.Y.: For the first time in exactly one month, due to the strange weather conditions that have affected the region; the SUNY Cobleskill women’s softball team was able to take the field dropping a pair of non-league contests to host Sage College at the Gators’ Robinson Field by scores of 5-1 and 17-3. With the losses the Fighting Tigers move to 1-5 overall on the season while the Gators improve to 8-10 overall.

In the first game the Fighting Tigers trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning when the home team rallied for three runs to put the contest out of reach.

Sophomore second baseman Briana Becker, Euless, Texas, Trinity High School, drove in her double play partner junior shortstop Jaimee Lord, Mechanicville, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, with a single in the fifth inning as part of a 1-for-3 effort at the plate. Lord operating out of the lead-off spot was 1-for-1 with two walks and a pair of stolen bases in the game.

Freshman pitcher Katerina Weingarten, Carlise, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, took the loss going the distance allowing three earned runs over six innings; striking out three hitters while allowing two walks and six hits.

In the second game the Gators scored early and often as the Cobleskill pitching and defense struggled in the early going allowing Sage to build a 10-1 lead after three innings on their way to a 17-3 decision in five innings.

Jaimee Lord continued her hot hitting in the second game for the Orange & Black going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored with sophomore designated hitter Gabrielle Danthine, Sloansville, N.Y., Schoharie, N.Y., going 1-for-2 in the game with a double and a pair of runs batted in.

SUNY Women's Softball Reschedules Game

The SUNY Cobleskill Department of Sport & Exercise announced today that Fighting Tiger women’s softball team’s North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) away doubleheader versus Penn College originally scheduled to be played on Thursday April 6^th in Williamstown, Pa. has been postponed due to weather and field conditions.

The conference doubleheader will now be played originally scheduled to be played at Cobleskill on Friday April 14^th will now be played at Penn College beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Williamstown. The teams’ doubleheader originally scheduled to be played at Cobleskill’s Fighting Tiger Park on the 14^th will now be played on Sunday April 30^th at 1:00 p.m. in Cobleskill, N.Y.

Fighting Tiger Weekly Recap

The SUNY Cobleskill men’s lacrosse team split a pair of home games during the week defeating Green Mountain College 25-2 on Monday prior to losing in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action on Saturday to Polytechnic Institute by a 15-10 margin. Sophomore attackman Garrett Vigrass, Wallkill, N.Y., Wallkill High School, had eight goals and three assists on the week for the Fighting Tigers who are now 3-3 overall on the season including a 0-2 mark in league action.

Sophomore multi-event athlete Zach Haskin, Warnerville, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, was the Fighting Tiger men’s outdoor track & field team’s top performer at the 2017 WCU Invitational hosted by West Chester University in West Chester, Pa.on Saturday. Haskin met the New York State College Track Conference (NYSCTC) outdoor championship automatic qualifying standard in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters to place third in the event while finishing in seventh place in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.85 seconds to meet the conference’s provisional qualifying standard in the event.

The women’s softball team dropped five-of-six contests during the week losing a pair of non-conference games at Sage College on Wednesday by scores of 5-1 and 17-3 before splitting a NEAC doubleheader at home on Saturday with Wells College losing the first game 6-5 then winning the nightcap by a 12-11 margin in eight innings. The Fighting Tigers closed the week by dropping a pair of NEAC games at Keuka College on Sunday by scores of 5-0 and 10-2. Junior third baseman Hannah Hoffman, Troy, N.Y., Averill High School/Hudson Valley Community College, went 9-for-18 on the week with six RBI as Cobleskill moved to 2-8 overall with a 1-3 record in NEAC play.

The men’s golf team posted rounds of 357 and 348 for a two-day total of 137-over par 705 to place 11th overall at the 2017 NYU Invitational hosted by New York University at the highly competitive par 71/6053 yard Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, N.J.Sophomore Nate Stanton, Somers, Conn., Somers High School, was the Fighting Tigers top finisher taking 49th place overall in the 59 player field posting scores of 90 and 84 for a two-day total of 32-over par 174 for the tournament.

Senior hurdler Emily Belewich, Ava, N.Y., Adirondack High School, was the Fighting Tiger women’s men’s outdoor track & field team’s top performer at the 2017 WCU Invitational hosted by West Chester University in West Chester, Pa.  Belewich placed seventh overall in the 100-hurdles in a time of 16.91 seconds to meet the NYSCTC outdoor championship meet provisional qualifying mark in the event.

Uninsured Drivers and Road Safety

New York State is one of the majority of states to require drivers have insurance on their vehicles. There are multiple tiers of insurance available for drivers. You’re bombarded with the biggest companies offering their wares, whether it be State Farm, Geico, Liberty Mutual, or others. Each has their advantages and drawbacks. However, despite the requirements for insurance, one of the largest issues remains uninsured or underinsured motorists.

Underinsured motorists include drivers that do not carry the value replacement cost of their vehicles. In some cases they do not carry liability, or often referred to as casualty, insurance. Sometimes drivers do not purchase collision coverage on their vehicles, leaving them in the lurch in case of an accident.

In other cases, drivers refuse to buy car insurance at all. There are some instances where drivers do not realize they need to carry insurance. However, that is a minimum of cases. Many drivers who lost their license do not drive with insurance. Sometimes illegal immigrants do not carry insurance. All of these scenarios add to a real mess when someone is involved in a crash.

Without the proper insurance, many drivers simply flee. Uninsured motorists are a leading cause of hit and run style accidents. There are other cases where a family is severely injured due to the crash and the other driver has no policy. This leaves them personally liable for all physical and emotional injury and damage.

All of these cases provide a complicated landscape for drivers. A person getting behind the wheel or waving off their loved ones shouldn’t have to worry about whether one of the other drivers is carrying insurance. That is where responsible attorneys step in to protect the rights of vehicle operators.
