AI-generated content may be incorrect.

DELHI – District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that Kenneth Dillmann, 30, of Hobart pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony, and was sentenced to three and one half to seven years of imprisonment.

On January 12, 2025, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Buena Vista on State Highway 28 in Delhi for a suspicious person/drug complaint involving two vehicles. Upon locating one of the vehicles and conducting a search of that vehicle, Sergeant Eric Alexander located a loaded pistol in Dillmann’s backpack.

Dillmann appeared before the Honorable John L. Hubbard, Delaware County Court Judge, on February 18, 2025, and pleaded guilty to the charge.  Dillmann was sentenced on July 22, 2025.  The three and one half to seven years imposed by the Court is the maximum penalty permitted by law.

District Attorney Shawn Smith commended the work of the Sheriff’s Office along with the Delhi Police Department for their diligent work on this case.  Smith stated “I am grateful for the work done by Sergeant Alexander, Deputy Justin Mohr and Detective Croizer in this case.  Apprehending a convicted felon with a loaded pistol is extremely dangerous.  The officers did it professionally and no one was injured. “

Franklin Stage Company Closes Twenty-Ninth Season With Red by John Logan

FRANKLIN — Franklin Stage Company, Delaware County’s admission-free, professional theater, will close its season with John Logan’s play Red, August 8–24 at Chapel Hall, in Franklin.

Red, a play for 2 actors, is set in 1958, and based on a series of real events in the life of painter Mark Rothko. John Logan's 2012 play portrays a period in the life of the abstract expressionist as he struggles to complete murals for a commission for the Four Seasons restaurant. As the play opens, Rothko is hiring a new assistant, Ken, who will come to challenge him with big questions about art and what it takes to be a creator in the world. Red is a fascinating exploration of the ever-changing relationship between the artist and his creations, and explores the rewards and temptations of fame and its challenges to an artist's integrity.

“The play takes on many of the questions that plague artists,” said FSC Artistic Director, who will also direct the play. “People in general are confronted daily with the choices between doing what they feel is right and paying their bills. John Logan’s play explores that idea on a grand scale. Not only was Mark Rothko one of the giants of 20th century art, and not only were his paintings large, but the commission he contemplates in this play would make him a very rich man.” The play has been described as "intense and exciting" and "a startling snapshot of a brilliant artist at the height of his fame."

Red runs through August 24 at Chapel Hall, 25 Institute Street in Franklin, NY. Please note all evening shows have a curtain time of 7:30 pm. Red will also have Saturday matinees at 3:00 pm, and Sunday shows at 5:00 pm. General Seating. Admission is free—suggested donation is $25 per person. For more information and reservations, visit www.franklinstagecompany.org. Programming at the Franklin Stage Company is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature.

Eternal Spaces – Selected Works by Robin Kappy Opens at Delaware Pantry Aug. 2nd

DELHI – Delaware Pantry is pleased to welcome New York artist (and psychotherapist!) Robin Kappy. Beginning  her career as an artist at Parsons, she spent time as a commercial artist before becoming a social worker  and psychotherapist. She returned to life as an artist in 2006 and has since been featured in many shows  and won numerous awards.

She’s built time in the Catskills into her life for years. We’ve followed her work for several years and  believe it's a perfect fit for our space. In the words of the artist, “Working within the portrait and  landscape painting traditions, I use layered tones and colors to evoke the softness of distance, the hush  of twilight and close observation of natural forms. I am not seeking to portray a literal place, but to  evoke a portal where viewers can slow down, breathe, and enter expansive and eternal spaces.”

Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, August 2nd, from 2-5pm. Refreshments will be served.  Robin’s show will run from its opening through September 14th.

Delaware Pantry is open Wednesday through Saturday from 1-4pm. Find Delaware Pantry at River  Meadow Farm, located on the Little Delaware River, 21780 NY 28, Delhi, NY, four miles east of Delhi.
