State Sen. Oberacker Comments on State Budget

ALBANY, 04/09/22 -- State Senator Peter Oberacker (R/C – Schenevus) today commented on completion of the 2022-23 state budget.

“The ultimate in Albany double-dealing has just finished playing out at the Capitol.  A budget that spends at a record rate, checks in more than a week late, and was cobbled together in total secrecy is now complete.  Last minute additions, headlined by sham bail reform changes that fail to improve public safety and a multi-million-dollar football stadium handout, are prime examples of misplaced priorities.

“Education aid for our schools, an end to the fiber optic tax to boost rural broadband growth, and the partial gas tax suspension – about half of what I proposed – are all positives.  However, the negatives in this plan, coupled with the dysfunctional process, prove that real change is needed and it is time to end the status quo.

“New York is losing population at a record rate and this budget, which blows through our reserves and spends at an unsustainable rate, will only drive more people out because no one wants to be here when the bill comes due.”

Senator Oberacker voted against nine of the ten separate bills that comprise the state budget.

A fundraising horse show and craft fair for Saddle Brook Farm Animal Rescue

Written By Editor on 4/8/22 | 4/8/22

There’ll be food, fun and lots of festivities for the entire family at the Spring Schooling Horse Show and Craft Fair, on Sunday, May 22, 10 am to 4 pm, at the Saddle Brook Farm Animal Rescue in Walden, NY.

The event will showcase more than 30 crafters and vendors from around the area, with such items as pottery, quilted and knitted items, quilted items, jewelry, novelty items, homemade jewelry, tie-dyed clothing and much more. There will be pony rides and face painting for children, and food will be available for purchase. The event will be held rain or shine.

Throughout the day, participants can roam the grounds and visit with the many horses, emus, goats, sheep, chickens, dogs and other animals that have been rescued and now have a happy home at Saddle Brook.

Highlight of the day will be a schooling horse show, an opportunity for equestrians of all ages to demonstrate their skills and compete in all levels of riding. There will be events in Mini Stirrup Walk/Trot, Shorter Stirrup Walk/Trot, Short Stirrup Equitation, Maiden Equitation, Local Hunter, Lead Line, Pleasure Horse/Pony and Western Walk/Jog. Ribbons will be given in in each class and a champion and reserve champion will be awarded in each division.

The Horse Show will be judged by Helen King, owner of Saddle Brook Farm Animal Rescue and an award-winning trainer and instructor who has more than 35 years of professional riding, teaching, and training experience. Helen has had a life-long love of horses and other animals.

The event is being held for the benefit of the Saddle Brook Farm, a 501c3 non-profit corporation that relies totally on the generous donations and support of its patrons and volunteers.

Visitors to the craft fair and horse show will be given an opportunity to become a “Horse Hero,” and sponsor the horses and other animals in our care. A special fundraiser will be held that day for “Pippin,” one of the 12 rescue horses that currently live here at the farm. Pippin is a 15-year-old mixed-breed gelding, who has a bad bone chip in his knee that requires a $6,000 surgery to remove it.

FIGHTING TIGER SOFTBALL SWEPT BY RPI ENGINEERS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Troy, N.Y.: The road was a bumpy one for the SUNY Cobleskill softball team on Saturday as the Fighting Tigers were swept by the Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) by scores of 8-0 and 15-1 in non-conference action. With the losses Cobleskill falls to 2-8 on the season overall while RPI is now 10-10 overall on the year.

In the opener the Fighting Tiger bats could not touch Engineer starter junior Alexis Cooke, Newton, N.J., Kittatinny Regional High School, for any hits and could only manage a pair of walks in the game as the Engineer right hander struck out five in five innings of work.

In the nightcap four Cobleskill errors opened the gates to 11 unearned runs as the Engineers cruised to the victory behind the pitching of junior Brooke Sroczinski, Raynham, Mass., Bishop Feehan High School, who allowed one unearned run on one hit striking our seven and allowing only two walks in five innings of work.

Senior center fielder Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, score the lone Fighting Tiger run on the day going 1-for-1 with a double and a walk at the plate.

The Orange & Black will return to action on Tuesday April 5 when they will host the Dutchwomen of Union College for a non-conference doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
